Creating expressions
In the Add/Edit Search Limit page, the Expression Builder is used to define an expression of a combination of operands. The system administrator creates expressions by selecting a first operand, an operator, and a second operand.
To create an expression
1
Under Operand Builder, create two or more operands, as described in Creating operands. |
2
Under Expression Builder, choose an operand from the first Operand drop-down list. The operands in the list are the operands you have created during this current Admin console session. (For more information, see Understanding and creating operands for search limits.) |
3
Choose one of the following operators. |
•
AND will create a complex expression to produce a search results list of items that match both the first selected operand and the second selected operand. |
•
OR will create a complex expression to produce a search results list of items that match either the first selected operand, or the second selected operand. |
4
Choose an operand from the second Operand drop-down list. The operands in the list are the operands you have created during this session. |
5
Choose Build Expression. |
6
Do one of the following: |
•
If you want to use the complex expression you just created as a search limit, complete the Search Limit fields, and choose OK to save the expression. (For information on the Search Limit fields, see Fields: Add/Edit Search Limit.) |
•
If you want to create another complex expression to use in a complex expression, repeat steps 2 through 5 for each expression you want to create. When you finish building the complex expression, complete the Search Limit fields, and choose OK to save the complex expression. |
